People often assume to clean your home’s exterior you need a high powered pressure washer to blast off all the mold, mildew, and grime. That is simply not true.. or safe!

There are many ways to wash your home’s exterior and siding but it is important to understand the differences.

What you learn in this article may save you thousands of dollars in repairs!

The two most common methods to get rid of dirt and all that bacteria growing on your home’s surface or property is Pressure Washing and Soft Washing.

You may ask, what’s the difference between pressure washing and soft washing?

Pressure washing

Pressure washing or power washing is the use of high water pressure to forcefully remove any mold, mildew, algae, dirt, and other bacteria from surfaces or objects.

When pressure washing, the water pressure can be as high as 2,000 PSI (Pounds Per Square Inch) up to 5,000 PSI (Pounds Per Square Inch)!

That amount of pressure is enough to strip paint, bust window seals, blow shingles off your roof, disturb your siding, and even cut off your toe! Ouch!

Since you are cleaning with only the use of high water pressure you need to be very close to the surface which often requires the use of ladders to clean hard to reach surfaces.

You can certainly clean a home by using a pressure washer and high water pressure but as you can see, it obviously has many risks involved. Risks that can be avoided.

Soft Washing

Soft washing is the use of very low water pressure paired with special detergents that are specifically designed to clean your home and property.

These detergents are not only safe for all types of homes and siding but they are also environmentally friendly and biodegradable.

With the right equipment, you can easily clean up to 3 stories safely from the ground without the use of ladders or high pressurized water.

This process can effectively remove mold, mildew, moss, algae, rust stains, dirt, and other bacteria using only 60 PSI (Pounds Per Square Inch)!

When to use Pressure Washing

Pressure washing isn’t all bad, you just need to know when to use it.

Since you are dealing with such high water pressure it is best to use pressure washing on surfaces like:

  • Concrete driveways, patios, sidewalks, walkways, etc.
  • Brick
  • Stone
  • Pavers
  • Other durable surfaces

When to use Soft Washing

Since soft washing uses water pressure as low as 50 PSI (Pounds Per Square Inch), it is safe for all types of surfaces, exteriors, and objects.

The key is to use the proper detergents for the task at hand.

Soft washing is recommended for cleaning surfaces such as:

  • Vinyl
  • Wood
  • Stucco
  • Screened in enclosures

As you can see, both pressure washing and soft washing have their place. If you are looking for soft washing services or pressure washing services in Greensboro NC, call Martin’s Pressure Washing at 919-931-0856 or send us a message.
